Quick Start Guide

This section is a condensed checklist to get the H1P EVK powered up and communicating. For full procedures, safety details, and troubleshooting, follow the cross-references to the full sections.

Unboxing Checklist

Confirm the evaluation kit contains the following items before proceeding:

Table 1: Unboxing Checklist Contents

Qty Item
1 H1P EVB-B Unit
2 Active all-band GNSS antenna, 5 m cable
1 USB Type C cable, 6 ft
1 USB Type A to C cable, 6 ft
1 H1P EVK User Manual + Datasheet

Power Supply & Safety

The H1P EVB supports two mutually exclusive power options:

  • Option 1 — USB (Default): Connect USB power to SN#9 with the power jumper cap (SN#8) installed.

  • Option 2 — DC adapter power: Supply 9–12 V DC to SN#7 with the power jumper cap (SN#8) removed. In this mode the SN#9 USB port carries data only.

  • Antenna power: Install the jumper cap at SN#5 to supply +5 V to active GNSS antennas. Remove it if using a passive antenna or an externally powered active antenna.

CRITICAL SAFETY NOTE

Never apply power to the USB connector (SN#9) and the DC 9–12 V connector (SN#7) at the same time. Simultaneous dual power sources may damage the board.

Default Serial Port Configurations

All serial ports use 115200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit unless reconfigured. Default output assignment:

Table 2: Default Serial Port Output Assignment

Port Output
Port A NMEA GGA @ 1 Hz
Port B NMEA GGA @ 5 Hz, NMEA RMC @ 5 Hz, NMEA HPR @ 5Hz
Port C UBX Messages @ 1 Hz, RTCM3 MSM7 @ 1 Hz
Port D Reserved

UBX Message Support

In addition to NMEA output, the H1P EVB supports the UBX binary protocol. By default, UBX messages are output on Port C. Supported messages and their default output rates are listed below.

Table 3: Supported UBX Messages

UBX Message Class/ID Description Default Rate
NAV-PVT 0x01 0x07 Navigation position, velocity, time solution 1 Hz
NAV-SAT 0x01 0x35 Per-satellite tracking status, signal strength, and elevation/azimuth 1 Hz
NAV-DOP 0x01 0x04 Dilution of precision values 1 Hz
NAV-TIMEUTC 0x01 0x21 UTC time solution 1 Hz
NAV-HPPOSLLH 0x01 0x14 High-precision geodetic position solution 1 Hz
NAV-DAHEADING 0x01 0x45 Dual-antenna heading solution 1 Hz

NMEA HPR Definition

The $GNHPR sentence reports heading, pitch, and roll from a dual-antenna GNSS receiver. Its field definitions are listed in Table 4.

Sentence format:

$GNHPR,hhmmss.ss,heading,pitch,roll,QF,sat_no,age,stn_ID*hh\r\n

Example:

$GNHPR,214728.00,177.8720,4.0996,,4,27,0.95,0999*43\r\n

Table 4: GNHPR Sentence Field Definitions

Field Name Description
1 Header $--HPR log identifier
2 UTC UTC Time, in the format of hhmmss.ss
3 Heading Heading, 0° to 360°, 4 decimal places
4 Pitch Pitch, -90° to 90°, 4 decimal places
5 Roll Roll, -90° to 90°, 4 decimal places
6 QF Solution quality:
0 = Invalid,
1 = Single Point Positioning (SPP),
2 = Differential GPS (DGPS),
4 = RTK Fix,
5 = RTK Float,
7 Sat No. Number of satellites used
8 Age Age of differential correction data (seconds)
9 Stn ID Base station ID
10 *xx Checksum

Getting Connected

  • Serial (NMEA/RTCM/commands): install the USB-to-UART driver on SN#9. See section 3.1.

  • WebUI / network: connect to SN#1 (USB-NCM) and browse to http://192.168.7.1 — no driver needed. See section 3.2.

  • Firmware upgrade: performed entirely through WebUI. See section 3.3.

  • Control H1P EVB with H-center. See section 4.

  • RTK corrections via NTRIP Client. See section 4.6.

  • UBX messages via pyubx2 (Python): parse UBX output from Port C. See section 5.
